Woman Buys Old Jacket at Thrift Shop and Finds Note in Pocket Pleading, ‘Help My Grandkids’ — Story of the Day

Megan loved finding unique bargains at thrift shops, and when she spotted a beautiful, embroidered jacket at her local store, she didn’t hesitate to buy it. As she admired her purchase at home, she discovered a crumpled note in the pocket. It read: “Help my grandkids!”

Initially dismissing it as a prank, Megan’s curiosity and concern grew as she thought about the note while making lunch. Driven by a sense of unease, she decided to visit the address written on the note.

When she arrived, a little girl answered the door and led Megan inside. The house was cluttered and disorganized, and Megan’s heart sank when she saw the frail woman lying on the bed.

The woman, Erica, introduced herself and explained that she had been struggling with chemical pneumonia. She had sold her jacket to buy food for her grandchildren but feared she might not recover.

Megan, touched by Erica’s plight, decided to help. She cleaned the house with the children, ordered them pizza, and prepared a soothing drink for Erica. Over the next week, Megan visited daily, and Erica gradually began to recover.

Erica was deeply grateful and hugged Megan, calling her a saint. Megan responded warmly, saying, “Next time you need help, don’t leave a note. Just call me.” They became close friends, and Megan often shared their story, reflecting on the unexpected connections life can bring.
